Voltiva and Mobility46 sign agreement with SBB for installation and operation of 40,000 charging points

As part of its 2030 sustainability vision, Sambildsbyggsbolaget i Norden AB (publ) (SBB) plans to build 40,000 charging points around Sweden in the coming years. As a partner for the installation and operation of electric car charging and digital parking management, SBB has signed an agreement with Voltiva and Mobility46.

Increased demand for electric car charging near homes and workplaces

Trends point to strong growth in electric cars over the next 10 years. With more electric cars, the demand for electric car charging is increasing. Statistics show that 80-90 percent of electric car charging takes place at home or in the workplace. This means that more charging points need to be established near properties where people work and live. Right now, the focus in society is on expanding the infrastructure of charging points, but at the same time we need to start thinking about how to operate and maintain all these charging points. Otherwise, we risk being left with non-functioning charging systems in the near future.

Voltiva on the importance of operation and long-term

“The fact that SBB invests in both the operation and installation of electric car charging is a strategically smart choice. Both in terms of business and sustainability. Many people today think short-term and miss the long-term operating aspect of electric car charging. But if you want your charging system to last over time, operation is crucial. We look forward to a fruitful and interesting collaboration,” says Mikael Ring, co-founder and CEO of Voltiva.

SBB invests in electric car charging and digital parking management

SBB understands the importance of operation for its future charging points and during the spring and summer has evaluated a number of different suppliers to help with that. Charging and parking are closely interconnected, which is why SBB has chosen to sign an agreement regarding both electric car charging and digital parking management. In the agreement, Voltiva AB is responsible for the design, installation and operation of electric vehicle charging near the property on a large scale. Mobility46 AB provides, within the framework of the agreement, system support for digital parking management.

A step towards climate-positive properties

“This, combined with our other sustainability work in our property portfolio, means that we are approaching our goal of being climate positive by 2030,” says Marika Dimming, IR and Sustainability Officer, SBB

SBB is noticing an increase in demand from their tenants for electric car charging in close proximity to homes and business premises. This is therefore a natural investment that meets the needs of tenants and partly contributes to a more sustainable society in which we move away from fossil fuels together.

Collaboration to develop the parking of the future

“It is a great pleasure to work with SBB to develop the parking of the future. They are a forward-leaning property owner who has decided to be at the forefront of digital parking management. With this, they are also taking an active role in the transition to an electrified vehicle fleet,” says Johannes Asp, CEO and co-founder Mobility46.

Scope of the Framework Agreement

The framework agreement is valid from 1 September 2022 and covers the design, installation and operation of electric vehicle charging. It also includes system support for digital parking management in garages and parking, including a number of digital tools (including digital parking permits, digital subscriptions for electric car charging and digital notification & billing) for users through an app for both parking and charging.
