Serneke selects Park46 for management of parking and electric car charging in Karlastaden

Karlastaden is one of Sweden's most ambitious urban development projects — eight blocks of housing, offices, hotels and restaurants, crowned by Northern Europe's tallest building: Karlatornet. To meet the need for modern parking and electric car charging, Serneke has chosen Park46 from Mobility46.

Background & Challenge

Karlastaden will include about 2,000 homes, offices, hotels, schools, health centers and 770 parking spaces. The size and complexity of the project placed high demands on a smooth, flexible parking solution that works for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Serneke sought a system that could offer simplicity to customers while giving them as developers and property owners control, follow-up and the ability to adjust supply as needed.

“We are developing Sweden's most exciting urban development project Karlastaden [...] and we needed to find a system for the management of permits that works smoothly for the customer”
— Birgitta Neugebauer, Business Development Manager, Serneke

Solution & Collaboration

After careful evaluation, Serneke Mobility46 chose Park46. A strategic effort was made to permit parking without fixed spaces — a model that allows maximum flexibility, better land use and more business opportunities in the garage.

The system allows permits at different time intervals (day, evening, weekend), management of charging points and bicycle parking. When opening each new part of the garage, charging points are installed in 50% of the locations — with the possibility of scaling up.

“In Karlastaden, we chose Mobility46 to give our customers simplicity and flexibility [...] and at the same time give us as property owners the best opportunity to get follow-up and change the supply if needs change.”

“The startup feels great — it's noticeable that Mobility46 has done this before!”

Results

The cooperation began in October 2022, and the installation of the system is ongoing in parallel with the expansion of Karlastaden. The first part of the garage opened for move-in residents in 2023, and the goal is for the entire garage to be operational by 2030.

Mobility46's solution provides Serneke with a future-proof system that can grow with the project — and can also be used in future urban development projects.

“If this becomes a good addition to the way we work today, we will definitely continue with it, even outside Karlastaden.”
